- Diploma in Speech and Drama, RSAMD, Glasgow 1953.
BA (Dramatic Studies) and M.Litt (Solo Theatre) Glasgow
University 1988 and PhD from Victoria University,
Wellington, New Zealand in 1994 for his thesis, The
Theatrical RLS.
- Leading roles in the theatre include Hamlet
at Glasgow Citizens' Theatre 1960, The Entertainer
at Dundee Repertory 1972, Cyrano de Bergerac
at Newcastle University Theatre 1974, Murder in
the Cathedral at the Edinburgh Festival 1986,
Macbeth on Inchcolm Island in 1989 and Shadowlands
at the Court Theatre, Christchurch, New Zealand in
1992.
- Featured roles in films include Windom's Way,
Victim, A Night to Remember, Shake
Hands with the Devil, Jason and the Argonauts
and Cleopatra.
- Leads in two major television series - This Man
Craig (BBC 1967) and Burns (STV 1968) and
featured roles in Elizabeth R, Danger Man
and The Avengers.
- Wrote and recorded pop songs for EMI at Abbey Road,
London.
- Formed his own company, Shanter Productions, in
1969 to present his own solos around the world and
in 1978 to extend this as Two for a Theatre
with Alannah O'Sullivan.
- Formed The Pennyfarthing Partnership with Alannah
O'Sullivan in New Zealand in 1991.
